Thickets Thin

Thickets Thin:

  1. I am most interested in how the mugwort, multiflora rosa and hay-scented ferns all die back, from the inside out. It fascinates me how where you couldn’t see inside an expanse, you now can.
  2. What happens to the sound of the insects at this time of year? Crickets start to chirp more slowly as the temperatures cool.
  3. There is an intrinsic sadness to this time of year, deep within us. We are noticing the end is not far away. There is an interstitial sadness between the plenty of summer and the plenty of harvest/fall. We’ll forget this sadness during the busyness of September and October, but it’ll return in November.

(Bonus vacation photos at the end!)
